Vios Successor? 2010 Toyota Etios Concept Spyshots
In less than 24 hours, Toyota will be unveiling its latest compact the Etios. As the video suggests, this would potentially be the replacement for the Vios and other small compacts in the world (at least in the emerging markets and that includes the Philippines.
Sources familiar with the auto industry say that the Etios will first go on sale in India this year, then to emerging markets like Russia, ASEAN, and South America.
We will have the full images videos on Wednesday, so better bookmark our site. For the meantime browse on some more Etios spyshots below.

2010 Toyota Etios Concept Sneak Preview

We wonder too whether this will replace the Vios which has been selling very very very well here in Manila and elsewhere in Asia.
The Cops' Wet Dream : Mercedes-Based 10,000-Gallon Water Cannon
Protesters, beware! This is the Water Cannon 10000 built by Austrian coach-builder Rosenbauer and based on the Mercedes-Benz Actros 3341 all-wheel-drive truck. The truck can handle up to 10000 liters or approximately 2642 gallons of water. Refilling is accomplished at water hydrants, open water, or both.
The 31-ton Water Cannon 10000 is powered by a , read closely, Euro-5 compliant V-6 turbo diesel featuring BlueTec SCR diesel technology,” according to a Mercedes press release
Interesting is that the driver will benefit from an automated transmission operation and an auxiliary HVAC system helps “maintain a pleasant interior temperature.
The vehicle will initially be available and used by the German police. Seventy eight of these vehicles are initially queued for production over the next ten years.
The good news: Mercedes really makes things great things from scratch. And, the German police too, will get it too soon.
The bad news: At 1 million Euro, or close to Php 67million, it can come too cheap for a president like Arroyo (and her governmnt , of course). Haha
2011 Ford Mustang GT Kicks 500 horses from a 5 liter V8

The new powerplant will replace the Neolithic 4.6-liter V8 unit with its pathetic -for an engine of this size and this era- output of 315-horsepower.
Ford's V8 makes 82.4 HP per liter, GM's V8 churns out 68.7 HP per liter and Chrysler's Hemi, 69.7 HP per liter!
Last November, Ford unveiled the 2011 Mustang with a new 3.7-liter six-cylinder engine producing 305-horsepower.
Nice pictures, but will Ford Philippines, bring it here?

F1 Bred: Lexus LFA Official Promotional Video
To me, this really sounds like an F1 car
The new Lexus LFA marks an important moment in both the history of Lexus and the development of the supercar. A true "clean-sheet" design, the Lexus LFA was created by a small, passionate and dedicated team of engineers whose achievement has been to push the boundaries of technologies materials and engineering at every stage to produce a car like no other to have carried the Lexus badge.
Constructed using advanced carbon fibre technology, the rear-wheel drive Lexus LFA is powered by a bespoke, high-revving 552bhp 4.8-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine, matched to a rear-mounted six-speed sequential automatic transmission, giving 200mph-plus performance.
In the words of Chief Engineer Haruhiko Tanahashi: "The Lexus LFA is a thoroughbred supercar, a machine engineered to achieve a single goal - to deliver a supreme driving experience. Over the past decade we have pushed every boundary in pursuit of this goal and I believe we have created the most driver-orientated car we possibly could."
CARBON FIBRE CONSTRUCTION
Keeping the car's weight to an absolute minimum was one of the defining elements in the development of the Lexus LFA and this led to the decision to switch from using aluminium for the car's construction to advanced Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) for the chassis and bodywork.
Moreover, Lexus decided the CFRP structure should be built in-house rather than by a third-party supplier. In doing so, it drew on Toyota Motor Corporation's heritage in textile weaving technology to push the boundaries of its technical abilities, developing new carbon fibre looms and a laser system for monitoring the integrity of the material.
At four times the strength of aluminium, CFRP gives the Lexus LFA an exceptionally stiff and strong structure, and also delivers major weight advantages, saving around 100kg on an equivalent aluminium body. CFRP accounts for 65 per cent of the body-in-white, with aluminium alloy used for the remaining 35 per cent.
Unlike the few other vehicles on the market that use CFRP construction, the Lexus LFA uses the same advanced resin technology favoured by cutting-edge aerospace programmes for its unmatched weight and strength properties.

Looks can kill
The new 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander has been unveiled in Australia to replace the existing Outlander, which basically is still young. While the current Outlander sold here in Manila is similar to the chart topping model sold elesewhere in the world, Mitsubishi decided to gamble in its attempt to change every single car on its fleet with the trademark shark nose/ jet fighter grille. The new grille in the Outlander complemented by new hedlamps, front bumpers, side mirrors, bonnets and fenders. Since adopting the nose on the Mitsubishi Lancer, several Mitsubihsi cars have undergone a facial surgery--these cars include the Lancer Evo, Colt and now the Outlander.
The Aussie Outlander will feature Hill Start Control also found in the 2011 Sonata to automatic transmission models and Super All Wheel Control system.
There will be two variants for the SUV-- a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder gasoline that can propel with max 168 hp and a 3.0 liter V6 variant that generates 227 hp.
The bad news: With the current fleet of Mitsubishi Outlander sold here, a diesel--tubrocharged Common Rail is far from a reality.

From Honda comes The Segway Alternative, Welcome The Honda U3-X Mobility Device
Honda has developed a new personal mobility technology, U3-X. It is a compact experimental device that fits comfortably between the riders legs, to provide free movement in all directions just as in human walking forward, backward, side-to-side, and diagonally. Honda will continue research and development of the device including experiments in a real-world environment to verify the practicality of the device.
This new personal mobility device makes it possible to adjust speed and move, turn and stop in all directions when the rider leans the upper body to shift body weight. This was achieved through application of advanced technologies including Hondas balance control technology, which was developed through the robotics research of ASIMO, Hondas bipedal humanoid robot, and the worlds first* omni-directional driving wheel system (Honda Omni Traction Drive System, or HOT Drive System), which enables movement in all directions, including not only forward and backward, but also directly to the right and left and diagonally. In addition, this compact size and one-wheel-drive personal mobility device was designed to be friendly to the user and people around it by making it easier for the rider to reach the ground from the footrest and placing the rider on roughly the same eye level as other people or pedestrians.
Key features of U3-X:
Free movement just as in human walking
1.Device control featuring application of balance control technology cultivated through ASIMO research:
The incline sensor detects the incline of the device based on the weight shift of the rider and determines the riders intention in terms of the direction and speed. Based on the data, precise control is applied to return the device to an upright position, which achieves smooth and agile movements and simple operation by weight shift only.
2.HOT Drive System (Omni-directional driving wheel system):
Honda developed the worlds first wheel structure which enables movement in all directions including forward, backward, side-to-side and diagonally. Multiple small-diameter motor-controlled wheels were connected in-line to form one large-diameter wheel. By moving the large-diameter wheel, the device moves forward and backward, and by moving small-diameter wheels, the device moves side-to-side. By combining these movements the device moves diagonally.
Compact size which fit between the users legs
3.Compact and innovative package:
The combination of the balance control technology and the HOT Drive System enabled the one-wheel style compact and innovative package of the device. In addition, the device adopts a light-weight monocoque body in which the foldable seat, footrests and body cover that also function as the frame are stored in the body of the device, achieving highly portable convenience.
Key specifications of the experimental model:
- Length×Width×Height(mm) = 315×160×650
- Weight = less than 10kg
- Battery Type = Lithium ion battery
- Operation time (with fully charged battery) = 1 hour
