Transformed: 2011 Hyundai Accent

Hyundai chose Beijing to unveil its 2011 Hyundai Verna (locally known as Accent). The new look wasn't much of a surprise actually,  what's surprising is how Hyundai designers managed to "minimized" the 2011 Hyundai Sonata look into the Accent.

2011 Hyundai Elantra

Hyundai has officially unveiled the new Elantra(aka Avante in other markets)  at the Busan International show. While the previous Elantra looked liked a Corolla Altis, the new Elantra surprisingly transforms into a much sportier sedan. Fitted into the fluidic design we first saw on the 2010 Hyundai Tucson.

Ward's 10 Best Engines for 2009:Germany Dominates, Hyundai's HIstoric Entry

a Diesel-fed Hyundai Tucson ix is Indeed Coming

Relief! When we wrotethe article that the all new much awaited highly anticipatd (anything more?) Hyundai Tucson ix has arrived in the country we mentioned that the diesel version is not yet offered as of the moment. We learned from very reliable sources that the Diesel version of the Tucson will arrive sometime second or third quarter of 2010.

Get ready CRV.

Success of Hyundai-- Made in Germany

All of us have seen  the Santa Fe, Genesis, Genesis Coupe, Vera Cruz, Tucson, the i30 and all of the Hyundai (and Kia) models sold on and after 2005. Hell Hyundai sounds and is Korean, but their cars--with the extensive use of CRDi Disel engines and design speaks a different tongue.

IF Koreans cant do car, let the Germans do Das Auto

Unexpectedly Extreme: Hyundai Sonata YF Officially Unveiled in Korea

The Hyundai Sonata has YF has been unveiled officially in Korea  .It cost 240 billion Won to develop the new Sonata over the timespan of 4 years. (more high resolution pictures at the Flickr photo slideshow the end this post)
CARAZINE.BLOGSPOT.COM13 Sep. 19 05.52

The New Sonata is priced at 21.3 million Won ($17658 or Php 842,322.99) to 25.95 million Won ($21,514 or Php 1,026,210).  Pretty cheap for the size and specs I must say.

The engine is a 2.0 liter Theta II developed from the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance (GEMA). These engines are basically 1.6, 2.0, and 2.4 liter versions found in most Chrysler cars, the current Mitsubishi Lancer, and Kia Cars.

While GEMA engines are same, configurations in engine tweaking and of course, transmission modfications make the Sonata stand out with a best in class peak torque of 198Nm at at 4600 rpm. The transimission, notably is also the best in its class with 6 speed automatic.

Hyundai says that another enigne varaint--a 2.4 liter version will be unviled in January with direct injection when it hits the US , and  beleieve it's a "Hyundai Genesis" shock again--although this time with the Sonata.

Hyundai's new design evident in the Sonata is what it calls' fludic sculpture" While the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Mazda 6 slug it out on the mid size sedan market, the Sonata's avant garde design tells me that wants to match Mazda 6.

Foglamps, Airbags, ABS, EBD and Vehicle Dynamic Control (...i can continue with more standard features )comes standard with the New Sonata. Another feature, which is only available in South Korea is a Mozen Telematics, which basically is a BMW Connected drive-- that enables the driver to get  connected on high speed Internet and anti-theft tracking.

The good news: Most Hyundais that are sold elsewhere are and will also be sold here in the Philippines.
The bad news: I can't wait.

A Great Leap: Group of Car Companies sign Letter of Understanding on Fuel Cell Vehicles

The Prius, sales hit 2 million mark this year

Fuel cell vehicles, electric vehicles, and hydrogen powered vehicles all have an electric motor that makes car run, the only difference is where and how the motors get the power.

Since the beginning car companies have planned,  developed, and designed their choice of their own system. We see Toyota going gaga over Hybrid, while Mitsubishi and Nissan-Renault is fanatic about an all electric-powered vehicle; add to it that Honda has released a lease only fuel-cell hydrogen vehicle. That's how unorganized car companies are. As a result we only see a few and expensive hybrid cars on our roads and showrooms. The Prius, for example has been around since 1997, an not much progress has been made with regard to its high cost of production. Hybrid cars sold today are basically unattractive since the price you pay for a hybrid engine will take years to recover the extra cost. So still, what we have right now is a conventional fossil-fuel (gasoline, benzene, diesel) vehicle domaqinated roads.

Hydrogen stations like this is still not a common sight due to high cost of infrastructure.

A group of companies represented by western car makers Daimler Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Renault, and Asian superstars Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group, have announced they’ve signed a Letter of Understanding concerning the development and market release of fuel cell powered electric vehicles. The car companies aim that there'll be more than a hundred thousand units on the road by 2015.

Hyundai ix Metro CUV unveiled

From CARSCOOPS UK

Hyundai is taking aim at Nissan's Qazana with its new ix-Metro concept car at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show. The compact utility vehicle is one of a burgeoning number of small 4x4s in the pipeline – and is set for production within two years.

The Hyundai ix-Metro will drop its BL/Rover inspired name and instead adopt the ix-15 or ix-25 moniker when production starts, slotting in neatly under the new, Tucson-replacing ix-35.

Hyundai ix-Metro: the first photos

These first renderings reveal a stubby crossover, bristling with Hyundai's latest styling cues. That's the BMW-esque body surfacing, with entrenched banana sills and the company's new hexagonal grille. The ix35 is the first production car to have the latest family face, but it will stretch to every new Hyundai, according to the design chief.

The ix-Metro is one of nine new Hyundais coming in a fast and furious new product offensive, vowed Hyundai Europe vice president Allan Rushforth. The nine new models arrive in 13 months, starting from October 2010.

What else is new at Frankfurt on the Hyundai stand?

The Hyundai i10 EV is the company's first electric vehicle. They've ripped out the petrol powerplant and stuffed in a homegrown electric motor and state of the art lithium ion polymer batteries from Korean firm LG.

It's designed primarily for the domestic Korean market, where trial production starts in 2010, but Hyundai Europe is keen to get models over here for evaluation in urban areas such as London. One big stumbling block is the price; the batteries alone on current costings would weigh in at around $16,000.

Hyundai will also show off its first hybrid car, an Elantra fitted with an LPG-electric powertrain. Autogas is popular in Korea, where the car is sold, but Hyundai is showing it in Frankfurt to underline its eco credentials. The company has vowed to lower its fleet average CO2 emissions in Europe to 95g/km by 2020.

Expect plenty more electric Hyundais to come, then.

Hyundai i10 Electric EV unveiled ahead of the Frankfurt debut

These are the latest official photos of the Hyundai i10 set for the Frankfurt Motor Show. From the outside you can hardly see a difference from the current offer from Hyundai Asia Resources Inc., (HARI), the Philippine distributor. Open the hood anyway and see  that the i10 Electric is powered by a 49kW (66 horsepower) motor, mated to a 16kWh battery which promises a range of 160km and a top speed of 130km/h.

The bad news is: Because of the switch of powertrain, the steering, air conditioning, water pump and brake vacuum pump systems have been modified to all run on electrical power now.

The good news: the press released from Hyundai tells that will be initially SOLD (not leased) to Korean governments, corporations and other utility companies.  ERGO,  we might see a very efficient electric city car in the Metro certainly cheaper than the Prius' Php 2.25 million price tag.  I never know anyone who bought this Prius here anyway. The Hyundai i10 basically is  priced Php478,000 for hte based 1.1 model to Php578,000 for a 1.2 automatic with Airbags and a lot of power from  a 1.2 liter pony.

All New 2011 Hyundai Sonata (aka the future Camry killer) Leaked Images here. 1st !

Official sketches of the new Hyundai Sonata has been released by the Korean company and the car is expected to make its official debut in Korea on the 10th of September.
We beg Hyundai Asia Resources (HARI) to bring this here on time.. just like what they did with their iseries and all the rest of the pack.

I personally like the car as it looks like The Genesis but less of the ultra luxuious feel. This car I must say will surely give the Camry a headache. It can be Accord vs Sonata should this car make it on time here.

So okay, these are just sketches and its easy to make a sketch look good. There are actually some photos leaked of the Sonata in the metal that have made their way out onto the internet. Look after the jump for how the actual car looks like.

Sexy Utility Vehicle: Hyundai Tucson ix35

Hyundai was the brand to avoid whenever shopping for a car be it brand new or used. That was so then. Then came the Starex of the late 90's,an instant hit for its size and price, an now car experts and owners would say that the van is indeed legendary; prove to it that still it is the best selling van in the country and even in Europe. 2004 was when car companies in the West continue to lose market share against Toyota and Honda. Hyundai was of course still ruling Korea and in the province of Ulsan, came to make the first generation Hyundai Tucson. It was launced in the Philippines the same year and sales skyrocket as buying an SUV that arguably looks better and is a lot cheaper than the RAV4 made sense. The car is smashing as it is came in package with sporty looks, preppy engine, and unbeatable 5 year 100,000 km warranty to name a few. Since the mid 2008 car enthusiasts like you and me have been waiting and wanting to see the upgrade for this mini muscle. I posted a video and just look how marvelouse this SUV is. Breathtaking indeed.
