3+1 Volkwagen E-Up Concept Car
The 3+1 E- Up is an addition to the Up! Car range from Volkswagen. The car, like the rest of the Up series is powered by an electric motor-this one with a 40kw, with a maximum burst of 60kw and a full steam that can go to a 200nM torque- that's surprising for its motor size!
3+1 wont give you 4 but is basically means 3 persons plus a space enough for a good deal of load
VW's Martin Winterkorn sees that in the foreseeable future, gasoline and diesel cars will still rule our mid and long haul trips, cars like the E Up can manage city driving needs. (more pictures at the end of this post)
he E-Up! weighs just 1,085kg, and out of that the lithium ion batteries housed in the under body (protected by a crash-protected tray) alone takes up 240kg. The electric motor is lighter at 140kg. The E-Up! is meant to be charged at home in the owner’s garage, or on the road when a charging infrastructure has been set up.
Volkswagen predicts that quick charging infrastructure could possibly allow the E-Up! to be charged up to 80% of its battery life within an hour’s time. At home, a regular 230V outlet can do the same in 5 hours tops.
The good news : VW’s Martin Winterkorn believes that this is an electric car relaizeable in mass production with cheap price tag within 5 years.
The bad news: So why not a five seater!?
